This is one of the most important monastic centers in Epirus which was founded in the early 14th century (1310 to 1320), by Saint Neilos Erihiotis. At a certain point, it functioned as a Secret School and Seminary. The Katholikon was built in the 14th century and was renovated in the 16th century (1568). The walls are decorated with Byzantine frescoes of the 16th and 17th century folklore. The temple was made in 1824.
The monastery is open to pilgrims daily from sunrise to sunset. It is 8 km. from Filiates, 23 km. from Igoumenitsa and 100 km. Ioannina via the national road or 82 km. via Keramitsa.
